Swiss drummer and sound artist Nicolas Field presents the sound installation 'Shimmering Beast'. It consists of a 16½ by 20 foot (5 by 6 meters) large triangle, formed by sixty Paiste Alpha Brilliant cymbals, cymbal stands, bass transducers and lights.

Nicolas has set up the cymbals horizontally to reflect diverse light sources. This massive and visually stunning collection of Paiste Alpha cymbals slightly touch each other producing a shimmering sound.
Under the stage, four vibrators are placed to amplify the extremely low frequencies generated by a computer, thereby vibrating the floor on which the stands are positioned and accentuating the noise of cymbals, like a mini-earthquake, making the cymbals vibrate and resonate.
The sound installation is part of the 'Rock The Casbah' course at the Swiss Institute in Rome, a unique place that offers the possibility to develop work and research to young artists and scientists since more than sixty years. 'Shimmering Beast' will open on September 1.
Nicolas Field studied at the Conservatoire de Musigue Populaire in Geneva and also received a degree in Media and Arts at the Haute Ecole d’Art et de Design in Geneva.
