"The Thunder and Lightning combo hi-hats have a wonderfully trashy sound combined with the smoothness and sizzle of a conventional hi-hat."
CRX Series
David demos the new CRX Series cymbals of B20 bronze. These cymbals are manufactured in China and available for about one half of the price of the Turkish TRC cymbals.
This new line of contrasting cymbals consists of CRX Classic, CRX Rock, and CRX Extreme. The CRX Extreme series also comes with a brilliant finish. The china cymbals in this line (available in 18"and 12") now have a reversed bell, which is quite special for a mid-priced range.
Also new is the CRX Prime, and entry-level cymbal that's actually made of B20 bronze. All CRX cymbals are aimed at (younger) drummers with a smaller budget.
NRG Series
The NRG Series is TRX' range of aggressive, heavy metal, high-frequency cybals. These bright cymbals add to the full spectrum of sounds that TRX offers. It helps drummers to add different kind of contrasts to their playing.
At the NAMM Show 2014, David demos the differences between the DRK, MDM, and NRG and explains how TRX has always been trying to create a spectrum - from the DRK Icons to the NRG series. So instead of relating each cymbal to a different style of music, the folks at TRX relate each model to a sound spectrum.
Icon cymbal series
The existing Icon series, also offered in a brilliant finish, is still relevant. David shows his favourite model: the TRX Icon 22" heavy ride.
Also worth mentioning is the Dark Icon, which is an extra dark micro-series based on the success of the regular Icon series. The Dark Icon ride features pre-drilled holes and removable rivets so you can adjust the amount of sizzle.
SFX series and stacks
TRX also offers stack cymbals. Popular combinations are an 11 "splash on a 12" china (short and trashy), a 12" splash on an 18" stacker and an 18" stacker on a 20" china (with more bark in its sound). Special fx cymbals and bells in different sizes and models are also offered in the CRX series.
