Mikkey is replacing James Kottak, who drummed with the German hard rock band between 1996–2016. At the time of leaving the band James was the group's all-time longest-standing drummer, surpassing Herman Rarebell, who spent 18 years in the band.

Mikkey, who has been touring with The Scorpions for a couple of months now, announced the following:

"I feel truly honored and fortunate to be able to carry on playing drums on this level. I grew up listening to Scorpions and have always loved the band. We have been friends for a long time so traveling and performing this year with Klaus, Rudolf, Matthias and Pawel has been loads of fun and the crew is very professional. The Scorpions fans has been most welcoming and its been great to meet all the crazy wonderful Motörhead bangers along the way."

A Swede of Greek descent, Mikkey Dee was born as Micael Kiriakos Delaoglou. He has been known for his speed and precision since his mid-80s stint with King Diamond. In 1990 Mikkey joined Don Dokken for his solo album, 'Up from the Ashes'.

During this time, Mikkey Dee also filled in a short time playing for World War Three (WWIII).

Motörhead's main man Lemmy had been repeatedly asking the drummer to join his band since 1985, and in 1992, when asked once again, Mikkey Dee accepted the offer, replacing Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor. Mikkey's first gig with the band was on 30 August 1992 at Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

In January 2016, Mikkey Dee joined Thin Lizzy to play on their upcoming anniversary shows. However, on April 19 it was announced that he would not be participating.
