Smashing Pumpkins drummer Mike Byrne is no longer part of the band. The drummer's departure has been confirmed by bandleader and front man Billy Corgan.
The reason for Byrne's departure remains uncertain. Asked by MusicRadar if Mike would be drumming alongside Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee on the band's upcoming album 'Monuments to an Elegy', Billy stated: "Let's just say that Mike, like Elvis, has left the building."
Back in 2010 Portland-born Mike Byrne joined the Smashing Pumpkins at the age of nineteen, replacing founding member Jimmy Chamberlin.
Mike drummed on both 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' (2009) and 'Oceania' (2012), and did some tours with the group.
