Lars is currently at the film festival in Cannes, France promoting Metallica's upcoming 3D concert film, 'Through the Never'. The film is starring Metallica, a cast of thousands of their fans and breakout star Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), who plays a road crew member who experiences something that turns his life upside down.

States the drummer:

"I would love to do something with film. I have actually been offered the chance to both direct and produce as well as write and I've acted in a couple of films, so I do what I can. But the biggest enemy I have is time. Metallica in its 32nd year is busier and has more projects on the table and takes up more of my time than it ever has."

The film was written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimrod Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and produced by former IMAX film producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth.

'Through the Never' will be screened at IMAX theaters throughout the US for a week starting September 27th. This will be followed by a roll out on other theaters on October 4.

It's not the first time Lars Ulrich has switched from stage to screen. Remember the classic documentary 'Metallica: Some Kind of Monster'? In 2010 Lars made a cameo as himself in 'Bring Him To The Greek', followed by 'Mission to Lars', a feature film about a fan who wants to meet his drum hero. Lars also acted in the 2012 film 'Hemingway and Gellhorn', alongside Hollywood heavyweights Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen.
