In conjunction with this development, Hit Like A Girl has also announced that Jessica Bowen, drummer for Arizona-based, power-pop band The Summer Set, has agreed to become the campaign’s official spokesperson for 2014.

As Hit Like A Girl's spokesperson, Jess will help promote women’s drumming through her live, studio and video performances, media activities and trade show appearances.

Jessica will also once again contribute her time and expertise as a judge for the 2014 Hit Like Girl Contest that's scheduled to kick-off January 15, 2014.

Hit Like A Girl intends to launch a public relations and social media outreach in the coming months and will be seeking to collaborate with other organizations that have the goal of increasing the quantity and quality of female drummers around the world in common.

A veteran of numerous major tours and record releases since The Summer Set formed in 2007, Jess Bowen has established herself as one of today's top young drummers as well as a role model and advocate for other female musicians - although drumming wasn't exactly her first choice:

"My father and my older brother both played the drums so, when I asked my dad to buy me a guitar, he told me that I had to play the drums instead. I guess I was 'forced' into being a drummer, but I'm extremely thankful for growing up in a house full of drums, drummers and drumming now."

Jessica says she's glad to see perceptions are changing as people see more successful female drummers in a less male-dominated drumming world:

"I remember playing one of our first big shows in L.A. and the audio engineer wouldn't let me soundcheck my own drums. He said, 'Don't worry, I’ll hit them like a girl.' I realized then that even though the band was blowing-up, I’d still have to overcome the stereotypes and preconceptions that all female drummers face."
