Jazz drummer Tony Reedus has passed away. He died Sunday, November 16, 2008 of a pulmonary embolism en route by ambulance to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in the Richmond Hill section of Queens. Tony was 49.

Tony Reedus had collapsed at John F. Kennedy International Airport after getting off an American Airlines flight from Bologna, Italy, where he had been performing with LeDonne.
Tony Reedus was born in Memphis in 1959. He took up drums at age 14, and soon after started playing with his school band. Inspired by his uncle, veteran Jazz Messenger pianist James Williams, Tony became interested in playing jazz.
In 1981 Tony Reedus made his recording debut with Woody Shaw on the album \'United\'. He proceeded to tour the world with the trumpeter\'s band, and remained with the group until it disbanded in 1983.
Tony Reedus lived in Irvington with his wife, violinist Jenise Grice-Reedus, and their 5-year-old daughter, Cameron.
