Peter Jones joined Crowded House in 1994 after original drummer Paul Hester left the group, citing the lengthy touring schedules as a reason.

Peter drummed the remaining concert dates and also played on the live concert cd 'Farewell to the World'.

Crowded House, led by New Zealander frontman Neil Finn, are in mourning for the death of their former drummer. They released the following statement:

"We remember him as a warm hearted, funny and talented man, who was a valuable member of Crowded House. He played with style and spirit. We salute him and send our love and best thoughts to his family and friends."

The band, whose hits include Don't Dream It's Over and Something So Strong broke up in 1996.

Although Crowded House reunited in 2007, Peter Jones did not join them. The drummer role is currently filled by Matt Sherrod.
