On the 25th of June 2008 Johan Van Der Sijpe died. He was only 43 years old. Van De Sijpe was a very talented drummer and an extremely skilled cymbalsmith who mastered the art of customizing cymbals.

Drummers from all over the world sent their cymbals to have them modified by Johan.
Thanks to Johan\'s treatment many mediocre cymbals became the favorite of their owner after all.
In the \'80s Van De Sijpe started drumming with Cerceuil, followed by stints with Chacok Twice, Bronks and Cowboys & Aliens. He toured extensively with Jo Lemaire, and played drums at the St.James reunion shows. His last group was a coverband called Noisy Neighbours.
Both as a cymbalsmith and as a drummer Johan was completely self-taught. Watch him play a solo, of course using some of his own, unique cymbals:
