Brazilian percussionist Dom Um Romão died at age 79 following a stroke suffered during a recording session on July 24.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, on August 3, 1925 Dom Um Romão began working as a professional musician at age sixteen. The percussionist moved to the United States in the sixties, getting more fame as percussionist in Weather Report in the period 1971-1974.
Soon after Dom Um Romão released his first solo effort. During his impressive career Romão worked with artists like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ron Carter en Astrud Gilberto.
