Steve's attempt still has to be verified by Guinness World Records. When it's officially approved, Steve will have beating the current record that Portuguese drummer Carlos Santos held by one hour. Steve previously set the world record in 2011 by drumming for 121 hours.

He set out to raise funds for Cardiac Kids, a volunteer group that will in turn invest in the Labatt Family Heart Centre at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. The drummer's two year-old daughter, Jersey, was born with a heart defect and has undergone three surgeries at the hospital.

Guinness World Records guidelines allowed Steve to take 30-second breaks between songs and a five-minute break every hour (which he could bank). The drummer was also given five minutes rest per hour, which could be banked to accumulate some time to sleep. Steve drummed without stopping for the first 44 hours, and has slept 90 minutes or so per day since then. He also had to be recorded throughout. Steve explains:

"I don't have a lot of money or a lot of things, but drumming is something I have the ability to do — doing this to my body for ridiculous amounts of time."

The marathon drum session of playing for six days straight has taken its toll. As of passing the 100-hour mark at noon Tuesday, Steve had suffered a dislocated thumb on the first day, having his sound equipment overheat on the second day and on the fifth day a back spasm forced him to hire a chiropractor to work while he drummed.
