The biggest names in music competed for one of those highly coveted recognitions, with Sam Smith, Beyoncé and Pharrell leading the nominations.

Sam Smith dominated the 57th annual Grammy Awards in the most important categories, including 'Stay With Me' as Record of the Year, Stay With Me as Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist. Sam also bagged an award for 'In The Lonely Hour' as Best Pop Vocal Album.

Beck won a Grammy for 'Morning Phase' as Album Of The Year, as well as Best rock album. The album was also awarded as Best Engineered Album (Non Classical).

Pharrell was awarded for 'G I R L' as Best Urban Contemporary Album, and for Happy in the categories Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video.

Beyoncé ft. Jay-Z won two Grammy Awards for Drunk In Love: as Best R&B Song, and Best R&B Performance.

Eminem's album 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2' won as Best Rap Album. Eminem also took home a second Grammy award for his collaboration with Rihanna in the song The Monster.

Chick Cora got awarded twice: for 'Trilogy (as Best Jazz Instrumental Album) and for Fingerprints (as Best Improvised Jazz Solo). Dianne Reeves was awarded for 'Beautiful Life' as Best Jazz Vocal Album.

Angelique Kidjo's album 'Eve' was awarded as Best World Music Album, Ziggy Marley's 'Fly Rasta' won as Best Reggae Album, and Johnny Winter picked up an award as Best Blues Album for 'Step Back'

The Grammy Award in the category Best Country Solo Performance went to Carrie Underwood for Something In The Water. The Best Country Duo/Group Performance went to The Band Perry for Gentle On My Mind. Glen Campbell scooped the Grammy for I'm Not Gonna Miss You as Best Country Song.

Paramore won a Grammy as Best Rock Song for Ain't It Fun. Jack White picked up an award in the category Best Rock Performance for Lazaretto.
