For cymbal amplification and sound pick up, Zildjian already has their mike based system on the market. Zildjian's NAMM 2013 introduction is the Gen16 Direct Source Pickup system, which can be used for traditional cymbals and the Gen 16 cymbals. In three videos you will learn all about these high-tech 'microphones' that can change color when you simply change a setting. John Roderick, Zildjian's Vice President New Business/Product Development, explains all about the new Direct Source Pickups, Russ Miller gives you the practical use in the Zildjian video, and you can watch Chris Ryan demonstrating them at NAMM 2013.
Available in June 2013, the new Direct Source Pickup box set includes up to five AE Cymbals, a DCP (Digital Cymbal Processor for five cymbals with 99 presets per cymbal), pickups, a cable snake, and mounting accessories. The Gen16 Direct Source Pickup utilizes a new, patent-pending design, allowing for more accurate cymbal definition, audio articulation, and tone shaping. Additionally, it can be used with the existing DCP and Gen16 Cymbals.

Grammy-award winning artist Russ Miller showcased the Gen16 AE Cymbal System and new Gen16 Direct Source Pickup at the Zildjian Booth. In his demonstration video he shows some amazing benefits of the DSPs. For instance: there is no sound bleed from the toms, whatsoever.
Chris Bryar demonstrates the cymbals in two songs at Zildjian's NAMM booth.
Besides the DSP highlight, Zildjian also celebrates their 390th anniversary in 2013. With a short, but happy celebration moment at the always busy NAMM show, the cymbal makers cut up a Z-cake, ate it, and went back to work within five minutes. All photos and videos are included on the right.
