Sausalito police have arrested a man who claims to be Phil Buerstatte, former drummer for heavy metal band White Zombie, on suspicion of defrauding numerous drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers in the area.
When the suspect was booked into the Marin County jail, a fingerprint examination revealed his true identity as 46-year-old Loren Breckenridge.
Loren Breckenridge has an extensive criminal past, with warrants for his arrest in Florida and Minnesota for theft and possession of stolen property.
The man stayed at the Alta Mira Recovery Center but left treatment early and tried to pay the bill with a $75,000 fradulent check and false bank account information.
The Novato police were also interviewing the man claiming to be Buerstatte about a similar case at the Novato rehabilitation center. The man supposed to be Phil Buerstatte was staying at their facility and was the subject of a bulletin issued by the National Association of Addiction Centers.
The bulletin said someone identifying himself as Phil Buerstatte had defrauded at least four rehabilitation centers across the country by leaving the centers without paying.
