Drummer David Jones, with an international reputation for his innovative technique, has won 2010\'s $60,000 Melbourne Prize for Music.

David has toured extensively with such musicians as Don Burrows and James Morrison and formed several groups, including the David Jones Trio and DJ\'s Drum. His new dvd, \'Drumming in the Zone\', is due to be released next month.
About the Melbourne Prize for Music The total Melbourne Prize for Music is valued at more than $100,000, making it one of the country\'s most valuable. It is supported by the Lord Mayor\'s Charitable Foundation, the Tallis Foundation and the Melbourne Prize Trust. The winner is judged to have made an outstanding contribution to Australian music.
Other prize winners included Melbourne conductor Benjamin Northey, who was chosen to work with the London Philharmonic Orchestra two years ago, and pianist anex composer Natalie Bartsch.
The prizes were presented at the BMW Edge on November 10, 2010. A free exhibition of the finalists will be on display in the atrium until November 22.
