"Behind the scenes Kong needs a lot of investing. I want to focus more on other things again because there so many things I like doing: teaching drums, studying, playing in other bands, etc. It's time to move on and hand over the drumsticks for Kong. I am very curious about Kong with Stef Broks and I will sit in at gigs when necessary. And last but not least, I will miss those guys!"

About Kong
Kong started out in 1988 as a side project for a couple of Amsterdam-based musicians, with Rob Smits on drums. Being pure instrumentalists they never felt the need to add vocals.
Adding to their unusual approach, Kong's music is performed quadraphonically, with each member of the group positioned on a small stage in a corner of the venue and the audience in the middle. With this concept Kong toured regularly all across Europe, drawing widespread attention from in-the-know critics and building a selective but dedicated audience.
In 1999 Kong decided it was time for a break. Their last concert was in January 2000.
After nearly seven years, in 2007, Kong bassist Mark Drillich revived the band. It soon became clear that none of the former musicians were available so a new line-up was formed, this time with Mandy on drums.
