"[Dave] and I have this wonderful musical relationship which we don't have with other people. It's a very cool and comfortable position."
Dave steps in for Joey Castillo, who recently left Queens of the Stone Age for undisclosed reasons.
Dave, who has also played drums as a member of Them Crooked Vultures and Nirvana, previously appeared on Queens of the Stone Age's 2002 breakthrough album, 'Songs for the Deaf'.
It's not clear whether Dave will join the band on tour, but with his band Foo Fighters on hiatus, he has all the time for touring.
Queens of the Stone Age have been confirmed to headline the 2013 Download Festival in Donington Park, England.
