Dallas Taylor played at the legendary Woodstock festival, appeared on seven top-selling albums and bought three Ferraris. He also stabbed himself in the stomach with a butcher knife and drank so heavily that he required a liver transplant in 1990, five years after becoming sober.

Dallas' health forced him to largely exit the music business. Patti gave her ailing husband one of her kidneys in 2007.

Dallas, who had become an addiction counselor specializing in interventions and in reuniting alcoholics and addicts with their families, continued to treat musicians and other celebrities.

Born as Dallas Woodrow Taylor Jr., the Denver-based drummer first broke into the music scene with 1960s psychedelic rock band Clear Light. In 1967, he moved to Los Angeles, where he was introduced to Stephen Stills.

At the time, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young was beginning to take shape, and Dallas was asked to play drums on the band's first record 'Crosby, Stills & Nash', which was released in 1969.

Taylor also performed with Van Morrison in 1974, and drummed in the mid-70s for Paul Butterfield’s touring band.

Patti McGovern-Taylor's post reads as follows:

"This morning at 2:30 am I lost the love of my life Dallas W Taylor, he came into my life almost 18 yrs ago and saved me as much as i may have saved him, To me he was just a Good Man, a Good Friend, a Good Father, a Good Grandfather or Pop Pop, a Great Drummer and much beloved by many. I cannot even find the words to put down to say how grateful I am for the many friends and family who have been there for both of us these many days he has spent in the hospital, especially last night. I know he is a peace."

In addition to his wife, Dallas' survivors include son Dallas, daughter Lisa and five grandchildren.
