The second video series of the London Drum Show are of Keith Carlock's performance on the first day of the festival. Keith started his session with a 30-minute drum solo. From the first to the last note an overwhelming experience, like always with Keith. His versatility is just as impressive. The videos added here proof that, but when listening to his work on the latest Toto album 'Toto XIV' you get an idea of the full scope that Keith Carlock covers musically. Keith Carlock is married to singer/songwriter Lynne Timmes, has two daughters and lives in New York City, NY and Nashville, Tennessee.
His big breakthrough was probably when touring the world with Sting. He then joined the musical heroes of Steely Dan and in January 2014 he took over the drum chair for Toto, replacing Simon Phillips. His band Rudder is one of those must-have-seen acts. He has been touring the world with numerous top acts like John Mayer and James Taylor, sitting in for Steve Gadd. As busy as one can be, last year he recorded new albums for Wayne Krantz, Oz Noy (Twisted Blues Vol. 2) and he is the drummer on Christopher Cross' 2014 release 'Secret Ladder'.
A complete list of his references is just too big to mention. Amongst them are Donald Fagen, Walter Becker, Diana Ross, Faith Hill, The Blues Brothers Band, Leni Stern, Richard Bona, Chris Botti, Harry Belafonte and Paula Abdul. His most recent collaborations (2014/2015) include all legends: Anthony Jackson, Steve Lukather, Larry Carlton and Mike Stern. Keith released his first dvd 'The Big Picture' in 2009 on Hudson Music. An almost 5 hour exercise in phrasing, improvisation, style and technique.
His sound is in a great way defined by the very own style he has developed. His unique sound and style are just as musical as they can get. And that is why bands like Steely Dan, Toto and John Mayer don't hesitate calling him to go on tour or to record albums.
