Bosphorus Cymbals can best be described as traditional, yet far from ordinary. The company from Istanbul, Turkey offers 100% handmade cymbals but the new EBC Series, launched at NAMM 2015, was designed for today's trending musical needs such as electronic, techno and groovy music. More Bosphorus news from this year's Winter NAMM Show: Bosphorus artist Ari Hoenig's signature line Lyric Series made its world debut, and so did the much requested, sonically matched Bosphorus basic box set.
EBC Series consist of three different rides, two crashes, one china and a pair of hi-hats. All original and uniquely designed cymbals developed as a new solution with acoustic cymbals for many genres which are usually filled up with electronic equipment. Of course, each cymbal of the EBC range is also an alternative if you are seeking new sounds in your set-up.
EBC 21" Rough Ride This ride cymbal offers a unique, dark, dry and effective sound with short resonance. Full with fat middle frequencies. A little bit trashy when they hit the edge of the ride, just like a crash cymbal. Ideal for playing breakbeat, trip-hop, and fast tempo jungle beats. There are four, hammered big cove in a square shape on the middle part. It gives the little bit trashy and very short sound.
EBC 21" Glassy Ride Rich with overtones, the Glassy Ride is a sensitive medium/thin ride with normal cup size. Lathed and also hammered on the edge of the top side. Zebra kind of lathed on the backside. Long resonance time, a little bit glassy sound because of the shape of the cymbal. Ideal for using on left side, as an effect ride in faster tempos. Full with mid-high frequencies.
EBC 20" Bright Ride Heavy and bright attack and deep sound of the body of the cymbal at the same time. Huge cup. Big volume level. Full lathed with a kind of line lathing on both sides from the middle of the cup to the edge of the ride. Rich with the overtones. Ideal for playing fast tempos. The sound absolutely fits to the sound of the electronic and groovy music styles.
EBC 18" Sibilant Crash The Sibilant Crash is a heavily and deeply hammered thin crash. Top side is lathed, backside is natural. The sound is between the thin crash and china type cymbal. Great effect sound with fast explosion and a quite short resonance. Also great for using as a ride in jungle/drum 'n' bass styles to create a kind of constant white noise effect. Like this it gives a kind of "bleechy" noise above the music.
EBC 19" Full Crash This cymbals is the opposite of the 18" crash witgh a clear, bright sound, full with overtones. Not hammered only lathed and polished surface on both of the sides with a normal cup. More high and mid low frequency and less mid frequency. A typical universal crash mostly for the right side.
EBC 12" Fx China This effects cymbal comes in the form of a very sensitive mini china. The part of the side is very thin instead of the middle part and the cup. The middle part is deeply hammered and there are six holes, each of those are 1,5 cm diameter. It features a short resonance, rich in mid frequencies with not too much high frequency, so this cymbal is great for a solo situation with fast linear chops or for playing fast 8th notes in jungle/drum 'n' bass music.
EBC 13" Noisy Hats These hats feature a thick bottom hat with a huge and heavy cup. The top hat has the same size cup but it is a thinner one and has a lathed and hammered surface. This results in strong mid-range frequencies because of the huge cup of the top hat and a long resonance. It offers a hard attack but it's not that typical high sounded hats like usually in rock kinds of music.
The backside of both hats are natural. The bottom hat is only lathed, not hammered. Ideal for playing any kinds of modern groovy music. The most special character is also that kind of white noise effect sound. 13" Noisy Hats are a sensitive, fast and strong hi-hat. You can also hit the huge cup of the top hat as the main surface in certain kinds of situation.
Ari Hoenig's signature line: Lyric Series The new Lyric Series are Bosphorus artist Ari Hoenig's signature line. The cymbal range consists of a 23" ride, 21" crash ride and 14" hi-hats. Their sound reflects the extraordinary musical character of Ari Hoenig and combines different tones in a brilliant way.
Sonically matched box set After many requests for a sonically matched box set, Bosphorus finally gave in and launched their new boxed Bosphorus set, consisting of a 20" ride, 16" crash and a pair of 14" hihats. This set is made the same way as all other Bosphorus cymbals; from the same materials and with hand workmanship.
The cymbals in the box are very similar to the Traditional series medium weight cymbals. Bosphorus just made a different lathing pattern on them and the logos don’t include series names to prevent individual sales out of the box.
These instruments reflect the famous history of Turkish cymbal making at its finest. They are all set to Medium weight for extreme versatility and sonically matched. They can be used from low to medium loud settings. Well-suited for recording and live performances for vast array of genres like jazz, fusion, blues, pop, rock, country, folk, gospel and many other acoustic music.
The set comes with 2 years warranty against manufacturing flaws like all Bosphorus products.
