At the Sabian booth at NAMM is always something interesting to find besides the new cymbals. Not only did they acquire Crescent cymbals, and will the popular B8 series be replaced with a new line B8 X, we already published about the new line of cymbal bags featuring the look of high-end vintage bags. Pictures of the bags and B8 X at NAMM are added. And, Sabian is selling directly to retailers in the United States as of NAMM 2015. The biggest showcase however, were the Big and Ugly's, introduced for this year and having ten new cymbals in four different series. In the first video you'll see Mark Guiliana demoing a few of them at the press conference. In the second video Mark Love from Sabian shows and demos them quickly.
The Big and Ugly collection include the following cymbal models. In the second video, you'll see and hear them all in two minutes.
Xs20 Monarch (22")
Medium-Thin, with straight-ahead, focused sound, the Monarch delivers vintage look and feel, and crashability.
HHX Phoenix (22")
Dark, mature tones that rise Phoenix-like from this Ride, according to Sabian.
HH Nova (22" & 24")
The Nova delivers extremes in low and dry.
HH Pandora (22" & 24")
Medium-dark in tone, medium-light in weight, for the players that like 'Blue' notes.
AA Apollo (22" & 24")
Versatility is Sabian keyword for this cymbal. Hit it hard for a modern sound, or play it with dynamics for controlled stick and sublime shimmer. Apollo was the God of music and poetry.
HH King (22" & 24")
The King Ride with the right amount of dry, dark and wash. It may be the most complex cymbal of the collection because depending how you strike it.
