To meet growing demand from drummers that play Evans, the American drumhead company released two new drumheads at NAMM 2015 this year. Ben O'Brien Smith, Percussion Product Specialist for Evans drumheads and Promark sticks, takes you through the new heads in two videos, explaining all the new features for the Reso 7 and eMad based 16" bass drumheads.
Evans 16" Bass Drum Heads Because 16" bass drums are becoming more and more popular, Evans extended their bass head line with the 16" size. Popular 'street' kits like the Ludwig Breakbeat, Tama Silverstar Cocktail-Jam Kit or Gretsch Catalina Club Street Kit all have smaller sized bass drums. Unlike 18-26" bass drums, 16" drums can often feature metal tom hoops or standard bass drum hoops. These two variations require varied designs from the drumhead flesh hoop.

Evans Reso 7 Coated Resonant Heads Evans states that drummers have been conditioned to believe that the control of resonance and sustain from a drum stems from the batter head, when really it's the resonant (or bottom) head that is responsible for this aspect of sound. By using a thinner resonant head, one can achieve similar tone to a thicker head but with a faster decay (or shorter sustain). The Reso 7 is a 7mil coated resonant head featuring a unique 7mil film that provides warmer response and short sustain.
