"Unhammered bells have a very clear single light pitch. Hammered bells sound like the pitch has split and produce more tones."
In these three videos Mr. Peterson explains the ideas and the process behind the new Meinl rides. He names Buddy Rich. Louie Bellson, Papa Jo Jones, Sonny Greer and David "Panama" Francis as influences for the idea behind the large cup on the cymbals.
Ralph Peterson explains in detail what the specialties are of the Meinl 22" Symmetry Ride and 21" Nuance Ride. The second video gives some valueable lessons in how cymbals work - and more important: how to play these cymbals.
The 21" Nuance Ride has six rivets which are placed one inch apart on one side of the cymbal. You can have the option of more or less of a rivets sound when riding on the cymbal. In the third video, Mr. Peterson explains how you actually have to play the Nuance Ride if you want to make full or less use of the rivets.
Once again, Meinl teamed up with one of the best artists in the scene, combining both their knowledge and ideas to create two brand new, contemporary and excellent sounding additions to the Byzance Jazz series.
