"Clamping the pedal to the bass drum hoop creates pressure focused in one small area which noticeably reduces the drum’s resonance and low-end. By removing the pedal from the hoop, Bass Plate eliminates this stress and, along with distributing the weight of the drum more evenly and getting it slightly off the ground, restores the fullness of the bass drum’s sound."
In addition to the tone enhancement facilitated by separating the pedal from the hoop and suspending the drum, Bass Plate’s flat clamping surface and extended width combine to offer an even bigger benefit: lateral pedal positioning. This adjustability allows drummers to place their pedals in an infinite variety of positions from directly in the center of the bass drum to up to five inch off-center.
Not only can players now position both beaters of a double bass drum pedal equidistant from the center of the head for a more consistent tone, they can place their single and double pedals in a more comfortable playing position.
Most importantly, Bass Plate provides drummers with the ability to change the drum’s sound independently of the pedal’s action by letting them adjust the striking area of the beater horizontally as well as vertically. Nicholas concludes:
"Lateral positioning lets drummers separate two things that used to be inextricably connected: the beater’s height, which affects the pedal’s feel and power, and where the beater strikes, which affects the drum’s sound and overtones."
Available in models for 18, 20, 22 and 24 inch bass drums, the patented Bass Plate easily and securely attaches to any bass drum using the same screws and holes that the hold the two bottom back tension lugs on the drum. The device also features an integrated rubber clamping area for a solid, secure pedal connection, fits into standard hard and soft cases and is compatible with most popular bass drum pedals.
