Drummer Tom Miller has a unique Labor Day tradition: each year he gathers drummers and percussionists with their sets and their sticks for a 24 hour Drum-a-thon - probably one of the longest jam sessions you'll find in the United States.

Tom Miller started the annual Drum-a-thon 23 years ago after realizing how blessed he was to just be able to move around and play the drums. He didn't want to take things for granted, and decided to raise money for the the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Over the years, big names in the music industry have contacted Tom to congratulate him for the event, including Rush drummer Neal Peart and Journey skinsman Deen Castronovo.
The 23rd Annual Drum-a-thon kicked off Sunday evening on the parking lot of the Walmart on US Highway 17-92, in Sanford. The 2011 Drum-a-thon continued until 5 pm on Labor Day (Monday, september 5).
Wanna participate? No worries, Tom will organise another Drum-a-thon next year.
