The rehabbing pop star took home three awards, including the ultimate accolade Video of the Year for Piece of Me.
Britney Spears also scored Best Female Video, and Best Pop Video.
Other Award winners included Chris Brown, Linkin Park, Lil Wayne and Pussycat Dolls. Tokio Hotel was named Best New Group.
Among the performers during the event were Rihanna, Jonas Brothers, P!nk and Kanye West.
The MTV Europe Music Awards will be handed out in Liverpool on November 6, 2008.
