Renowned musician, innovative conguero, and Latin Percussion design collaborator, Carlos “Patato” Valdez, died of respiratory failure on December 4, 2007. “Patato” as he was affectionately known, helped pioneer the first tunable congas. He advised LP’s founder Martin Cohen on a variety of technical and design issues, and the result of their collaboration is the LP Patato Model Conga.
