The sixth annual Latin Grammy ceremony was broadcast in Spanish for first time ever, had surprising winners who beat out favorites, acknowledged new trends such as reggaetón and a farewell performance of Chilean rock group La Ley.
Big winner was Juanes. The Colombian rocker, who dominated the 2003 Latin Grammys, won three awards: Best Rock Solo Vocal Album, Rock Song and Video. Juanes has won no less than ten Latin Grammys to date!
Romantic pop singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz of Spain scored two of the biggest awards at the sixth Annual Latin Grammys, winning Record of the Year for \"Tu No Tienes Alma\" and Song of the Year as well.
Ivan Lins, Juan Luis Guerra, and Lenine also won two awards apiece.
Brazilian singer/songwriter Ivan Lins was the unexpected Album Of The Year winner with \"Cantando Histórias\". It was the first time a Portuguese language disc won in the category. Lins also won the MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) award.
Juan Luis Guerra took home an award as best Tropical Song for Las Avispas, and he won in the category Best Christian Album (Spanish language) with \"Para Ti\".
Lenine won both as an artist and as a songwriter with the song Ninguem Faz Ideia (awarded as Best Brazilian Song) and with his album \"Incite\" (awarded as Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album).
Other winners at the Latin Grammy Awards 2005 include Spanish guitarist Tomatito (his \"Aguadulce\" was voted Best Flamenco Album) and Italian vocalist Laura Pausini (photo), who took home the prize for Best Female Pop Album for \"Escucha\".
