A previously unreleased mix of Nirvana's song Marigold has surfaced, featuring Dave Grohl on drums, guitar and vocals.
Dave is accompanied by Kera Schaley on cello and Krist Novoselic on bass. Kurt Cobain is conspicuously absent.
Entirely written by Dave Grohl, the song was first released back in 1992 on 'Pocketwatch', a cassette album released by Dave Grohl, under the pseudonym Late! on the now defunct indie label Simple Machines.
In the summer of 1991, Dave Grohl went into WGNS Studios and recorded four songs, playing all the instruments himself. The recording was combined with six songs from a previous Upland Studios session recorded in late 1990. Although both sessions occurred after joining Nirvana, Grohl unobtrusively acknowledged their existence.
In 1993 the track found its way into the Nirvana catalogue as a b-side of the Heart-Shaped Box single.
Th Nirvana version with Krist Novoselic on bass was re-recorded on February 12–26, 1993 at Pachyderm Recording Studio, in Cannon Falls, MN.
