Drumming legend Joseph 'Zigaboo' Modeliste visited the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) to give an exclusive masterclass to students at its campus in North London, UK.
Zigaboo, with his famous New Orleans reputation, is highly respected among musicians and fans, and is known as a master of creating funk grooves and new concepts of funk drumming.
He is particularly notorious for his work with legendary funk band The Meters, whose classic hits include 60s anthem Cissy Strut - a song that has been sampled countless times by artists ranging from Public Enemy to DJ Shadow.
Since his days in the band Zigaboo has toured with Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones) in the late 70s and embarked on a respected and successful solo drumming career.
The Institute offers various courses in drumming including evening beginners classes, a diploma, an intensive one-year Higher Diploma, two degrees and masters.
Throughout the 2-hour masterclass, Zigaboo shared his unique talent with students from different courses at the Institute, demonstrating different rhythms and answering questions about his career and experiences as a master drummer.
