Custom builder Michael Kotzen worked with drummer/ percussionist / educator Homero Chavez to develop an exceptionally tonal cajon that’s very comfortable to play. It’s ideally suited for both live and recording applications.
The free standing design allows the instrument to resonate freely creating deep resonant bass tones and crisp slaps as well as a wide range of intermediate tones rarely found on a cajon. A unique front mounted hole projects the sound towards the audience.
Instead of sitting on this cajon, the player sits behind it and can comfortably play pedal mounted auxiliary percussion such as cowbells, woodblocks, hi-hats, etc. It’s a lot easier than balancing while leaning back on a traditional cajon. The free standing design also enables the player to more easily reach other hand percussion instruments.
You won’t find a more durable cajon as these road tested birch instruments feature dovetail joinery and industrial hardware.
Hand crafted in Southern California, The Homero Chavez Cajon is available directly from the manufacturer. $339. To order, send an email to info@ToneCajon.com
