The idea behind the AirStrike drums is that you play air drums over a set of infrared sensors that correspond to the pattern onscreen and, like Rock Band\'s physical drums, correspond loosely to actual components of a drumset.

The controller has four coloured infrared sensors that project the strike zones in front of the player that can be struck mid-air with the sticks. Which sensor detects the strike determines which drum you hit.

According to the Power Gig site, this setup lets you play more like you would on real drums and it lets you hear only the game sounds without the need to clatter cheap plastic drums.

The controller has two drumsticks and a small disco-ball looking unit that that sits between your feet. The company\'s site claims it can also differentiate between the left and right sticks, although this also begs the question of whether you can use your own sticks, like you can do with Rock Band.

Seven45 Studios chairman and CEO, Bernard Chiu, states:

\"We know that people may be sceptical of the AirStrike drums at first glance. But we also know that as soon as people sit down to play it, they are going to see how much more real and authentic it feels to be moving much the same way true drummers do when they play.\"

The game Power Gig is slated to be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this October.
