As a salute to the many players who are using the Speed Cobra pedal, Tama has issued a special black finish edition of the pedal called Midnight Special Speed Cobra.
The new limited edition bass drum pedal, models HP910LCB single pedal and HP910LWCB twin pedal, was originally a custom request item from artists on the Tama roster.
The HP910LWCB is currently being used on Mike Portnoy's Winery Dog tour kit among others.
The limited edition adds stealth to the speed and sensitivity that have made Speed Cobra the vehicle of choice for many drummers.
Regular Speed Cobra features The Speed Cobra series pedal features a footboard longer than the Iron Cobra, so it rapidly accelerates the power and speed of the beater stroke. Its patented recessed setting position makes it possible to achieve a perfect balance between the natural playing feel of the Chain Drive's motion and lighter action.
Also by changing the bearing's framework structure, this produces less stress on the Fastball bearing and makes a difference in the total feel. According to Tama, as a result, about 20% less exertion is required to produce the same result in power and feel found in existing current models.
Tama's patented Oiles bearings eliminate side-to-side motion. Also patented is the Cobra Coil: a steel spring which assists in the return of the footboard to its original position.
The Speed Cobra series pedal comes with a convex head shaped Projector beater, specially designed for the Speed Cobra to give the bass drum more sound projection and rich resonance.
Tama eliminated another source of friction by replacing the traditional nylon rocker cam with the Speedo-Ring, a rocker cam with a high quality built-in ball bearing rocker. The Quick-Hook not only allows for easy set up and tear down but provides a compact pedal that you can place in the hard case without taking off the beater.
