Kevin Depape, an industrial designer and drum fan from Lille, Fance who's currently residing in Eindhoven, Netherlands, wanted to imagine a new mobile drum concept for Roland. His goal was to come up with a simple, entry-level percussion product that functions as a good compromise between the electronic drums and practise pads. The result is the amazing Y-Drum.
Anyone who wants to have a bit of percussion fun should be able to enjoy the Y-Drum portable drum – at least, that’s the idea.
The Y-Drum set consists of 9 pads, 2 cymbals, a bluetooth module and a companion app, either mobile or desktop. This functionality sounds quite handy as you do not have to deal with wires getting in your way while playing. In theory, you just lay out the pads, link them to the Roland app, select a drum kit and you're ready to practice. All of the hardware is stored in a box that doubles as an amplifier.
Too bad it is still a concept, but chances are the Y-Drum will become reality within the near future. At this point we're missing a pad that allows you to play with your feet but we wouldn't be surprised to see the Y-Drum introduced at one of the next NAMM Shows.
