"An exciting opportunity to be at the heart of our European business, whilst we are all well aware of the tough economic climes in Europe, Yamaha reassuringly continue to invest and innovate in both production and product respectively. Currently and around the corner we have some very exciting products and I am looking forward to being part of the team that make said products and instruments a success in the European market place."
Richard Hodgson, Yamaha Music (UK) PMD sales and marketing director, says:
"Whilst I am sad to see Darren leave the UK division, I am delighted for him and truly believe that this move will bolster our marketing prowess across Europe. Without doubt, it will clearly be advantageous for the UK to have a native English speaker who understands the needs of our market. I am now urgently turning my attention to finding a worthy successor to Darren."
Previously Darren was national sales manager UK & ROI plus guitar, drum and Zildjian marketing manager and regional manager - Midlands at Yamaha Music UK.
In April of last year Yamaha promoted Darren to the newly created position of senior manager within its Pro Music Division, which made him responsible for dealer marketing activities, but also retained his sales management duties.
About Yamaha
Yamaha Drums is a subsidiary of the Yamaha Corporation founded in 1967. The company manufactures acoustic and electronic drum kits as well as percussion instruments, marching band equipment, and drum hardware.
Although its entry into the market was only 45 years ago and relatively brief when compared to the origins of the instrument, Yamaha Drums have changed and shaped drum manufacturing with many instrument innovations.
In the '60s drums were traditionally made with plies of wood glued together and supported by reinforcement rings. But Yamaha incorporated a method of marrying wooden plies together with staggered diagonal seams to produce a much stronger and rounder shell.
Yamaha was also the first to use a strong lacquer finish for drums that enhanced the sound over the traditional wrap finishes that were widely used.
It was followed by the introduction of the hide-away boom stand. This feature became an industry standard as soon as the patent ended.
Another important hardware invention was the adjustable ball clamp tom holder and hexagonal tom mount, which was it possible to adjust toms in any direction with one quick easy action.
Arguably the biggest game changer was the introduction of the YD9000 drum kit, now known as Recording Custom. Made from North Japanese Hokkaido birch shells, this series became the most recorded drum set in history.
Yamaha endorsings artists include Steve Gadd, U2's Larry Mullen Jr. and Will Champion from Coldplay.
