Paiste initially launched Giant Beats in 1967 with 18, 20 and 24 inch sizes. A differentiation of rides and crashes was not usual at that time so they were designated as Multi; multi-functional cymbals. 14 and 15 inch hi-hats completed the series.
Giant Beats were the first professional grade cymbals made of CuSn8-Bronze, replaced by the classic 2002 in 1971.
Paiste re-launched the legendary Giant Beat line in 2005. Considering today’s bands love to interrelate sounds of the 60s and early 70s to their modern music, the success of the reissued Giant Beats is no spurprise.
As demand for additional models grew, Paiste decided to introduce the 18 and 20 inch Thins to the original Giant Beat range. The Thins, which are lighter in weight than the Multi, have a quick response.
According to Paiste, their soft, smooth attack is followed by a deep, warm, velvety, and round sound paired with the trademark vintage character of the original Giant Beats. When played with the tip of the drum stick, subtle, silvery highs are said to shimmer throughout the cymbal followed by a dark wash.
