The Elvis Tribute Artist Spectacular celebrates the music of Elvis Presley era by era. The concert follows Presley’s music through the early rockabilly years, the military years, the movie years, the 1968 comeback television special and ends with the Las Vegas and concert years.
DJ Fontana was hired in 1955 as Elvis Presley’s drummer and along with guitarist Scotty Moore and bass player Bill Black formed Presley’s original band. DJ Fontana played on more than 45 recording sessions between 1956 and 1968 and appeared in four of Presley’s films: Loving You (1957), Jailhouse Rock (1957), King Creole (1958) and G.I. Blues (1960).
He remained with Elvis Presley for 14 years. During the 1960s, when Presley was making more movies, Fontana was still present at many of his recording sessions and played on more than 460 records with the popular singer.
The drummer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
