Indian Master percussionist Acharya Kuzhur Narayana Marar passed away on Thursday morning, August 11, 2011. He was 91. He died at a private hospital where he was undergoing treatment for age-related illness.

Kuzhur Narayana Marar's whole family is noted for their efforts to popularise Panchavadyam, a form of percussion, across the country.
Kuzhur was initiated into this arena at the age of five by his father, Manikkamangalam Kuchupilla Kurup. He learned to master percussion instruments like edakka, timila and chenda.
He studied with gurus like Puzhakkarapilly Rama Marar and Manikkamangalam Narayana Kurup.
Along with his brothers, Kuzhur Kuttappa Marar and Chandran Marar, he formed a percussion trio that delighted Panchavadyam connoisseurs for decades.
In 2005, he won the Pallavur Appu Marar award. His contributions to Panchavadyam had won him the Padmabhushan award in 2010.
Kuzhur Narayana Marar is survived by four sons and three daughters.
