Max Acosta, percussionist with Vayven Del Amor, was caught in a crossfire at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, between members of the Mexican Navy and unidentified gunmen in Diaz Ordaz, Tamaulipas, Mexico.

The 34-year-old percussionist was shot three times in the stomach and remains in critical condition at a Reynosa hospital.
According to band manager and lead singer Cesar Alaffa, Max Acosta was shot while walking to his vehicle from a convenience store.
The wounded Max Acosta reportedly drove his vehicle to a separate store to seek help but was ignored. He then drove to a nearby clinic, where a physician called an ambulance.
Emergency responders took Max Acosta to a hospital in Reynosa, where he underwent more than five hours of surgery on his lung, kidneys, small intestine and large intestine.
The musician, who owns a car wash in Diaz Ordaz, has been a member of Vayven Del Amor for 19 years.
The group has cancelled all upcoming appearances.
Meanwhile the authorities reached the next day, Wednesday May 18, denied knowledge of the incident in Diaz Ordaz. Military authorities in Reynosa denied their involvement in the shooting but confirmed it was the Navy the agency involved.
The Navy denied having any knowledge of the shooting at press time.
The Tamaulipas state police, the agency responsible in investigating gunshot victims admitted to hospitals, denied having knowledge of the incident.
