The shooting is still being investigated, but according to local media, Sergeant Mitchell fired his service revolver at close range after Hebert ignored police orders, brandished a knife and lunged at Mitchell and three other officers. The officer fired two rounds into his chest. David was pronounced dead at the scene.

Monday evening, about 75 Northside residents gathered at McKie Recreation Center for the Community Council's regularly scheduled meeting. Before the council could get to the items on the agenda, residents wanted an explanation from police.
