Grant Shapps, who is Minister for Housing in the UK's coalition government, has stepped in to try and stop the demolition of Ringo Starr’s childhood home. "Before a single bulldozer rumbles along Madryn Street, I want to ensure that every option has been considered…I want local community groups to have the opportunity to put forward viable proposals to preserve this historic house and that the people of Liverpool themselves decide whether they want Ringo Starr's house to be demolished or to let it be."
A group of Ringo fans have united hoping to conserve the building from being bulldozed.
An application to have the house declared a heritage site has already been dismissed.
