Bill's wife Rhonda Maddox called 911 at 7:27 a.m. and reported a burglary in progress at the couple’s home. Just before she put the phone down, Rhonda told the 911 operator: "They’re in the house. I’m gonna have to shoot them." Then the operator heard a single shot, followed after a pause, by several more.
In 2006 Bill Maddox replaced Chris Layton in a band called band Grady, but had to drop out a year later due to a heart condition. Bill built a home recording studio and had finished a solo project just before his death.
