Martin Drew, a British jazz drummer who was a member of the pianist Oscar Peterson’s globally popular group for three decades, has died. He passed away on July 29 in London after a heart attack. Martin Drew was 66.

Martin Drew was born in Northampton in 1944. He made his professional debut at age thirteen. He worked with various musicians before beginning a long association with saxophonist Ronnie Scott.
Martin was drummer both in his small groups and at the celebrated London nightclub that Ronnie ran.
While Martin Drew was working as Ronnie Scott’s house drummer, he accompanied Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and many other visiting American jazz artists. That\'s also how Martin first worked with Oscar Peterson in 1974.
Martin Drew performed all over the world with the pianist until a few years before Peterson’s death in 2007.
In addition to his wife, Martin Drew is survived by a son, two daughters and three granddaughters.
