Jazz drummer and percussionist Steve Reid has passed away. Steve died in his sleep on April 13 early in the morning after a fight with cancer. He was 66 years old.

Steve Reid started playing professionally at 16. His first recorded work was with Martha And The Vandellas, in the Apollo Theatre House band under the direction of Quincy Jones.
After graduating from Adelphi University, he traveled to Africa where he played with many of the continent’s most influential musicians, including Fela Kuti.
Steve also collaborated with many other artists during his career, including Martha Reeves, Miles Davis, James Brown, and Freddie Hubbard.
Steve Reid also became a productive solo artist, releasing nine albums under his own name. The drummer\'s last studio album is 2008\'s \'NYC\', where he worked with Kieran Hebden, aka Four Tet.
