One of the youngest and most promising drummers in the genre, Vitek consistently released albums both crushing and invigorating in their musicianship.

Besides Decapitated Vitek was also involved in other side projects, including Dies Irae and Panzer X. The Decapitated web site states:

\"Witold \"Vitek\" Kieltyka – our brother and dearest friend succumbed to head injuries sustained after a bad van accident while on tour in Russia. (...) He will be missed and can not be replaced. The metal scene will be much sorrier with his passing…\"

Vitek and vocalist Adrian \"Covan\" Kowanek sustained severe injuries in a collision between the tour bus and a truck. See also this previous news item on drummerszone.com.

Decapitated was on tour with Crionics, another Polish band. Their sticksman, Maciej Kowalski, suffers from a broken jaw.

The accident is believed to have been the fault of the band\'s driver (although this has not yet been officially confirmed).

According to Polish web portal Onet.pl, Vitek underwent trepanation. This is a form of surgery in which a neurosurgeon makes a hole into the skull in order to relieve some of the pressure exerted on the patient\'s brain. The drummer was due to be transported to a hospital in Krakow, Poland for further treatment.

Frontman Covan\'s family have released a statement that his condition has improved. At the time of writing, Covan is still said to be at the intensive care at a local hospital in Novozybkov, Russia, where he and Vitek were taken following the accident.
