\"I\'ve toured with both Gilby and Jason. They\'re incredible musicians and I\'ve always wanted to play with them. Starting a new band with old friends on worldwide television is going to be a blast, and we\'re going to pull out all the stops to find the most charismatic and musically talented lead singer to front Supernova. I love breaking the rules.\"
After the winning singer is selected on CBS\'s \"Rock Star\", Supernova will record an original album. In addition, \"Rock Star\" has signed songwriter-performer Butch Walker to produce Supernova\'s debut, to be released just before the new band hits the road in 2007. Walker, named Rolling Stone\'s 2005 \"hot\" producer, has written or produced tracks for Avril Lavigne, P!nk, Bowling For Soup, and Tommy Lee.
Former Jane\'s Addiction/Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro will return as one of the hosts of \"Rock Star\". Navarro commented:
\"I\'m excited to see what Supernova sounds like. Having Jason Newsted on board is for me, the really amazing part of this whole thing. Everyone knows Tommy and I are into doing other forms of media and entertainment, but Newsted? That\'s insane! At the end of the day, Tommy is one of rock\'s most amazing drummers and Newsted is such an incredible bass player. I personally can\'t wait to see what this rhythm section can bring.\"
Meanwhile MTV.com is reporting that Supernova could end up running into some legal trouble over their name.
Back in the early 1990s, a poppy punk trio called Supernova emerged from California\'s Orange County. The band, which released its first album on Atlantic Records in 1995, is perhaps best known for the track Chewbacca, which appeared on the soundtrack to Kevin Smith\'s \"Clerks\".
The first season of CBS show \"Rock Star\" saw INXS recruit new lead vocalist Jason Dean Fortune.
