\"This [syndrome] is something I pretty much kept under wraps from just about everybody during the course of the entire world tour (even my bandmates, for the most part) as this was not something I wanted to dwell upon or focus too much attention on, knowing that I could not take care of my knee in proper fashion until the world tour was over. (...)The good news is that the surgery was a complete success and for the first time in many years, I will be in much better health! I should be 100% in a few weeks.\"
Drover had received several cortizone shots between tours to deal with the pain, which worked only to some degree.
Synovial plica syndrome?
The knee joint is lubricated with a substance called synovial fluid. This fluid is surrounded by and produced by a sheath called the synovial sheath. The synovial plica is a synovial fold found along the inside border of the knee cap.
Symptoms include sharp pain and the plica may sometimes feels like a thickened band under the inside of the patella. Fibrous repair may be accompanied by increasing collagenization and progressive loss of elasticity. Irritation, abrasion and erosion of the bone may ensue.
