Densmore has won a permanent injunction preventing his bandmates from using the name The Doors Of The 21st Century.

The court order also requires The Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger to turn over all the profits earned by the new combo to the original Doors partnership.

The decision represents a major victory for John Densmore. The drummer charged the remaining The Doors members, keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robbie Krieger of breach of contract, trademark infringement and unfair competition.

Densmore says he has no problem with his former band mates touring together and playing Doors material, but he claims that using the Doors name and logo has caused confusion:

\"‘They’re playing Doors songs and calling themselves The Doors of the 21st Century. I kinda think it’s the 19th century, it’s looking back. (...) The Doors are Jim, John, Ray and Robbie. I don\'t care if they call themselves \'former members of the Doors,\' \'the Hinges\' or \'the Windows.\' I just want clarity. I don\'t want deception.\"\"

Under an agreement struck in 1971, the year The Doors frontman Jim Morrison died in Paris, all three surviving members as well as the Morrison estate must sign off on any use of the Doors name and logo.

However, Manzarek and Krieger and their new band continued to play as the Doors, even appearing on The Tonight Show in 2003, introduced by Jay Leno as \"the Doors\".

The Doors Of The 21st Century have decided to rename themselves to D21C and are currently touring in Canada.
