PlayCajon first launched in 2012 with over 100 video lessons for cajon and has now established itself as one of the top places to learn cajon in the world. Percussionist and author Paul Jennings decided to create playcajon.org after having a number of popular YouTube videos that taught the basics of cajon and other percussion instruments. The cajon courses feature 15 HD video lessons as well as accompanying written material for each lesson page. Beginner Course The Beginner Course covers the basics of the cajon including: how to sit correctly on the instrument, the tones, warm ups, basic exercises, first rhythms, rock, and rumba. Intermediate Course The student can then move on to the Intermediate Course where they will learn: how to change the pitch of the cajon, playing rhythms with sixteenth beat ghost notes, playing fills, using the sides of the cajon, and new rhythms including funk, blues, reggae, hip hop, rumba 2 & 3, and train beat. Advanced Course Then in the Advanced Course the student will learn advanced techniques including: the bass roll, using cymbals and shakers with cajon, using brushes on cajon, thumb triplets, advanced fills, la mano secreta, and rhythms including guaguanco, Purdie shuffle, funk 2, and Flamenco bulerias. Paul Jennings on YouTube Paul's YouTube channel now has over 25,000 subscribers and as a result of his online presence he was approached by Hal Leonard (the world's largest music book publisher) to author two of their official percussion method books, Hal Leonard Cajon Method and Hal Leonard Djembe Method.
