Also known as Escalante's syndrome in South American countries, FXS is a genetic syndrome that is the most common known single-gene cause of autism and a common form of inherited learning disability.

For twenty years all Tom has wanted is to meet his hero, to meet Lars. His siblings, Kate and Will Spicer, promise to make it happen, with hopes of good times and bonding.

In 2009 they embarked on a Mission to Lars. And they filmed it all.

But what started out a dream soon became a nightmare as Tom's disabilities, a dysfunctional family and heavy metal's labyrinthine backstage world thwart the mission at every turn.

'Mission to Lars' is said to be a classic quest movie in documentary form. Expect a film that has laughs, tears and heavy noise:

Directed by James Moore and William Spicer, this is a film that looks beyond disability, and uncovers the soul of a very cool guy. The soundtrack includes Metallica, Bob Dylan, Devendra Banhart and Blur among others.

'Mission to Lars' will be premiered at UK's Hackney Picturehouse on June 6th 2021 at 9 pm. There will be a Q&A with its directors chaired by Richard Bacon after the screening.

The film tours Picturehouse theatres in the UK throughout June and July.
